We had a purebred ocicat flown to us from Montreal that ended up getting a deadly feline disease and dying within two months. It sucks
Wow, that does indeed suck.

So now we have a female frenchy, a rescue called Stella

Its only been a couple days for me, but shes been here a week, and seems to be adjusting well. We took her to our vet yesterday, and she has a good clean bill of health. The only issues she appears to have are seasonal allergies, in which she gets a daily pill for, and shes a fatty. Being female, her proportions are a step down from Bosley. She is still bigger in stature than Morty, but dainty. She is two pounds heavier than Morty, coming in at 25 lbs, we figure she should be closer to 22-21, so I've already started a change up in her meals.

She is resource hoarding I've noticed, and this is something Morty and Bosley had started as well a few months ago. For her its her food and toys, and for the boys, its just been food. We have kept food out for them their whole lives and they've pretty much ate whenever they've wanted, but now they will have a strict one meal a day at the same time.

I have yet to take Stella for a walk, will be doing that shortly, and see how she is. She is affectionate and is demanding with her belly rubs. I think she was overly spoiled, and that is what has led to her behavioral issues. Overall she is a sweet girl, and I am happy to have her. I think with some repetitive positive reinforcement we can have her sharing her toys and resolve everyone's issues.

Everybody is getting along and relaxing more as each day goes by. This is typical of bully breeds, they tend to love their own much more easily than other breeds

Everyone in the house is sick. We gave the dogs a bath on Sunday and they were running around outside when it was chilly. I had finally raked up last years leaves, and probably stirred up a bunch of fungal spores as well. There is definitely something wrong with that back yard, half the lawn was clover I had noticed last year, will have to read up why and what to do about it.

All the dogs have allergies to varying degrees. Mortimer has been diagnosed with a type of immune disorder and needs drops in his eye for the rest of his life. Stella is a very dominant personality and has been clashing lately, Bosley got a scratch on his eye yet again. Luckily we still have medication from last time. Stella take a quarter of a pill daily, probably for life.

I'm not sure what we can do to improve everyone's quality of life. Moving from the last house we were at has definitely made a positive impact though.

In two weeks, Stella has already started to slim down. Lots more loose skin around her head and neck, as Pam has remarked, she HAS a neck now.

We had to take my dog to the vet last week. He was yelping whenever we got anywhere near his cheeks so we thought it was probably an abscess tooth. The vet thought the same so they scheduled an appointment yesterday to remove the abscessed tooth. It turns out his teeth were fine, but there was an abscess somewhere on his gums and they decided to take a biopsy. We'll have to wait until the results come back to find out what it was, but according to the vet, the abscess shrunk once they removed a piece for the biopsy. I get him back later this morning. Poor guy is probably locked up in a tiny cage.

Hope it isn't anything worrisome and he recovers quickly

Bosley is going to have to have his eye checked out, booking an appointment today

Thanks. Apparently they did remove some teeth, but he seems fine. I gently touched his cheek and he didn't yelp so that's an improvement.

Yesterday morning we said goodbye to Spot (named because of her nose), my furry little sidekick of 17 years. She fought hard to stay with us, but her kidneys couldn't, and I had to make the hard choice. My gut was twisted with doubt over my fears that I was giving up too soon because to the last hour she wanted affection and the warmth and comfort of my lap, but she had only been eating just enough to stay alive, and weighed 5 lbs. Even as she was drifting off to sleep at the end and I gently scratched under her chin the way she always loved; I felt her start to purr, and I pray she was thanking me and letting me know it's okay, because feeling that added just a bit more crushing pressure on my breaking heart. A lot more.

25 years ago, when I went through this after saying goodbye to my dog Karma, I promised myself I would never go through this again with a pet, but one day eight years later I came home from work to find my family in the kitchen, and my grandson shouted, "Papa, look!" as he pointed to a scrawny little kitten of maybe 4 to 5 months running straight to me, meowing her head off (over the years I often wondered if Karma returned to me), and I knew I'd be breaking that promise. Since then, she was attached to my hip and lap.

Now, everywhere I turn I'm reminded with a gut-punch of her absence.
When I go into the bathroom and her water dish isn't sitting in the corner of the countertop, the only place she'd drink.
When I'm feeding the other cats (yes, I'll be going through this again), and she isn't there reminding me who gets fed first.
When I set down my beverage on the try beside my chair and her food dish isn't there because at the end that was the only place she would eat.
Every single time I sit in my chair, and she isn't right there wanting to jump up in my lap before I'm even settled, if not just jumping onto the seat before I do and giving me a, "Oh, that doesn't work, does it?" look.
When I'm on my laptop and not needing to set it on the arm of my chair because she's on my lap.
When I go into my "den", and she isn't at the doorway strategizing a plan of entrance.
When she isn't sleeping on my chest when I go to bed or between my knees when I wake up.

Every pet-owner can relate in their own way. It's right there in the top 5 worst things to experience IMO.

Goodbye, Spot. One day my lap will be ready for you again, and with luck we'll have a nice, extra-wide chair, because if we don't, Karma may give you a nasty side-glance.
