Interesting thing I found out.

The current "the customer is always right...in matters of taste" "correction" of the "customer is always right"...

...is complete and utter bullshit.

Whoever invented that just made it up. Like, in the last 5-10 years.

There's ZERO evidence that that was the original quote, and that it only had to do with the customer being right about their preferences. In fact, the customer always being right in terms of attitude is what is original, and goes back to the late 19th/early 20th centuries.

Without question, it was made up by a snotty idiot who's never actually run a business, but probably worked in a service industry and was offended that someone dared question them.

I didn't think about it much...but I casually accepted this made up bullshit as "oh...huh. Maybe that's what they meant all along? Well, no matter, it's still a valuable principle to treat your customers as if they are right until proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are not, because my job is to PERSUADE people to buy my stuff."

I should have questioned it earlier!

And listen: this isn't justification for abuse. But the "equal partners in trade" is also incorrect. If I have something to sell, I WANT the buyer to buy it. That means the buyer has the edge, and rightfully so.

I'm in the firm belief that the 1% want to reset the world economy to 1930s levels. All things seem to point in that direction.

Covid absolutely destroyed the western economies and eroded the sense of democracy they once had.

I could see customer is always right being something pushed back then. Same with make hay while the sun shines and other optimistic euphemisms.

I had a lot more to say, but its the same these days, my mind is constantly folding and unfolding on itself and I can't remember. Probably wasn't important anyway
