Every year Pam and I take a few days to do a winery run down the Okanogan. We have a few wineries that are favorites that we hit every year, but generally we try to see new ones. This has been a thing since 2015 or so, but we've missed a year or two because of fires and Covid
Basically we start in Kelowna and go down the highway to Oosoyoos and back to Kelowna again and home.

Pam is the one that takes all the pictures, but here is one from last year, a native owned and operated winery, just inside West Kelowna

So this is the start of a 10mile tunnel called the MacDonald Tunnel

While traveling in this tunnel you can watch the light disappear behind you, and complete darkness for a good 20mins before you see the light begin at the other end

I'd have more pics, but my travel days are long, especially coming home. Generally I try to leave home very early morning, and get to where I'm going by mid afternoon. Luckily the clock goes back an hour.

On the way back, I'm lucky to get in before sunrise the next day. I'll work a 12 hour shift, then drive. I'm beginning to realize I cannot do 21 hour days anymore. Might have to start spending the nights at the hotel and leaving early in the morning the next day

One good thing about traveling the highways after 11pm is the truck traffic is at a minimum, and since most of BC highways are single lane, it makes for good time.

Thanks. I'll be staying in Kamloops. Talked to my boss an hour ago, he doesn't think I'll be doing anything, but that's the beauty of a union. I'll be paid no matter what, and I'll have expenses.

Apparently there have been massive landslides, 500 ft sections of the highway have washed away, train derailments that nobody can get to because of the water.

It's a goddamn mess over there

So made it to Kamloops in one piece, I have to say the tires I picked up are worth every penny

The worst part of the drive was just outside of Calgary into the Kootenay Pass. There was the system moving through that caused the massive flooding in Merritt. I had to slow to 20 kmph for the first leg of Highway 93, the plows had made a mess. There was frozen ice stuck to the road, creating gigantic pot holes and I had to crawl my way through. This is probably the only time ever I wish I had a truck or SUV.

After about 10kms in, everything eased up and it was pretty much dry pavement all the way from Radium to Kamloops.

Around Revelstoke it looks like the road may wash out, the river next to the highway was almost level
